Procrastination does pay off sometimes

Ever since I bought my 99 Sahara in July of 2018 I have had to do the 2 key cycle thing to prime the fuel rail. I have been dreading the day that I finally decided to fix it and drop the gas tank and change the fuel pump. Well for the last 3 weeks now it has been starting 1st time every time. My theory on this is that the jeep had been sitting up not being driven for a couple of years before I bought it and the check valve in the fuel pump had gotten gummed up and stuck open. And then when I bought it, it became a daily driver (was intended to just be a weekend toy) and after a year and a half of fresh fuel running through it, it got cleaned out and started working again. Now if only my P0455 EVAP code would fix itself.

I bought a used 96 F150 few years back that sat awhile. Did a basic tune-up, dumped a can of seafoam in each tank got on the highway and drove it until the tanks were empty. That worked out so many issues that I too believe were from it just sitting and doing nothing.

Unless you have some nasty stuff in your tank, I’m not sure how it would have gotten gummed up.

But hey, at least it’s working now!

Ethanol. It attracts moisture in the air and turns into a goopy slimy mess. Until it hardens into an even worse mess.
And even just regular gasoline will get sticky and varnish as it evaporates from sitting too long.

I'm a real believer that even though mechanical issues don't generally fix themselves... Some of the quirks that come with age and lack of use can seem to straighten out when you start using the vehicle.

I had a few things with my 2003 that had low miles that got better the more I drove it...one time someone on here made the statement that typically the more something is used the better it works... That really seemed to ring true in my mind .

I put a Delphi unit in just in March. Already having more trouble starting it than I did before I replaced it lol.. There’s another thing on the to do list, should probably clean out the tank when I do it again.
