Hey guys, first time here. I've been looking for a TJ for a little while as a milestone birthday gift for me. I've found a '98 Sahara that looks pretty clean, but when I asked for pictures of any underbody rust, this is what I got. I thought there were some potential red flags but wanted a second opinion from ya'll. It looks like someone tried to protect (or cover over?) some frame rust. Some areas don't look so bad, some are a little more concerning. I'm just not 100% sure what areas are critical and not. Any feedback ya'll can provide would be appreciated! Thanks,

I wouldn't spend a dime of my money on it. There's a lot of rust (and rot) there that's been painted over. If the outside of that frame is that bad, the inside is ten times worse. Looks like that frame has been repaired as well (and it's still in nasty shape).

Run away, as quickly as your legs will carry you. I wouldn't be comfortable selling that to someone I hated.
For reference, I spent about 2.5 years hunting down my LJ. I wanted an LJ, manual gearbox and no rust....had no idea at the time how my criteria would complicate and lengthen the search. Almost gave up a few times. Stick with it, you'll find a good one.

Your in Alabama...rust free jeeps should be plentiful. If you see rust on the frame, rust is everywhere inside. It will rust from inside out. Walk from any rust.
Go on Amazon and buy a $20 USB endoscope to use to look inside the frame.
That frame has more patches than my Sears Tough Skin pants I wore to school as a kid.
One cannot determine it is fact that he was trying to hide rust. Even if he were trying to treat it with POR15 or other it would look the same as painting it to hide it.
