Quick cowl question

Here is a pick inside…is this filter thing supposed to be like this? It’s awfully brittle too. Anything I should do, or just leave alone. thanks everyone

Do not mess with it . That's the blend door for the hvac,break it you have to remove the whole dash to fix it.

Got it. Thanks. Well, I have never checked underneath the cowl before and wanted to make sure it was clean underneath.
