Random photos: Got anything interesting, unique, strange?

Pretty sure it's Digital Combat Simulator, DCS. Seen a couple on utube with the F104, that game with the right system is incredible. Another jeep rabbit hole.

The comments say DCS doesn’t have the SR-71.

No, put there are mods who create skins around existing aircraft.

That is actually an NF-104A. It has the additional Rocketdyne AR2-3 engine mounted at the base of the vertical stabilizer

For some reason, this poster came to mind. One of the engineers at the industrial computer company I worked for had this in his office - ca 1981:

Suggested ad on Facebook this morning?? I mean yes, kids that are experiencing something like that need help understanding. But damn!

And then this is a screenshot I forgot I grabbed a little while back. Now granted the YJ was on the way out before I was into off-roading, but I never knew AEV made a LWB YJ! Pretty cool, I wonder if there's any of these alive and wheeling still?

Had one of those land in a recently planted corn field of ours once. The corn was emerging.

My dad was pissed they wanted to drive out in the field with their van to get it. I believe our gates stayed locked that day.

The factory that makes these balloons is just two miles down the road from us. The balloon operators know pretty well where they can land. That field was just baled about two hours before.

The people who fly these should expect to pay farmers fair value for any crops they damage during landing and recovery. And farmers should make reasonable accommodations to let them get their stuff.

The family of Sheldon Kiasik Brower served the Kaktovik community a part of their whale harvest on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, at the house of late Betty Brower who was the captain's mother. At the feast following the harvest, the family made unaalik and cooked whale meat, tongue, kidneys, heart and intestines. Photo by Irene Brower.

I love fish, but that looks like a ton of fat, pun intended. I'm not much for chewing fat. Anyone here ever eaten whale?

Yes I've eaten whale. I've even helped butcher a few. Most of the fat is trimmed off and used for other things. The MukTuk is the whale skin and then a thin layer of meat & then a little of the fat. It's what is in the two trays in the upper right of the picture.
A whale roast is really good.

MukTuk

This is one whale I'd helped butcher when I was a kid in AK.
