In 2001 I bought a nice 2000 TJ sport with all options, a budget boost, 32" tires and wheels, full doors and half doors and a few other extras with 16,000 miles on it for $18,000. I drove it for twelve trouble free years with only routine maintenance and one set of tires. I sold it with 65,OOO miles on it for ten grand which was the going price at the time.

At that time I had truck fever and I was tired of shifting the manual. After trying a few trucks and a few months of no Jeep I bought a JKU that I drove for five years and then finally got a truck that had been in my family since new and sold the JKU.

Two years without a Jeep was more than enough and I started my search for a nice auto TJ. Wow did I ever get sticker shock! Junk stuff with 200,000 miles had asking prices of 10 grand. I looked at one that was nice but not really what I wanted, that guy told me to be prepared to look at a lot of them before I would find what I was looking for.

After several more months I finally found something I could live with, a mostly stock, rust free, 2005 auto with 150,000 miles for $8000. I've had it about six months now and have put at least $2000 more in it, a hard top, half doors, 2.5 OME lift, seat risers (what were they thinking with this change) and will most likely put more in it with tires and a few cosmetics. I'm pretty happy with and have no plans to ever sell it (unless I find a really good deal on a nicer one)

I bought my LJ with 140K miles 2 years ago for $17,500. A bit high for a non-Rubi, perhaps, but I don't regret one dime. I got it from the original owner, and according to the Car Fax, it was bought here in SoCal, and spent all of its life here. The undercarraige was so clean, I thought something was fishy. Nope, just a one owner, very well maintained, garaged LJ that was never abused. I've had more fun with this thing than anything on 4 wheels. It's fun to drive to work.

Know the feeling. Have had this TJR for closing on a year now. Of all the literally dozens of vehicles I've had this is the first with zero 'buyers remorse'. And it is the most I've ever spent on a non-new vehicle. And probably have spent more on it than any other vehicle I've ever owned. Hell, I've probably spent more on upgrades to this TJ than the cost of 3/4 of my previous rides. And don't regret a single purchase I've made for it. Love this thing!
