Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster. I can usually find answers in previous threads, but can’t nail this one down.

97 4.0 sport on 35s with a 4” lift

I have a rattle that sounds almost like the clanking sound a rollercoaster makes when it’s being pulled to the top of its first hill. It stops as soon as I press the brake pedal, but will continue after the pedal is released.

I usually only notice it when I’m leaving my parking garage, it could happen a bit when the car is driving for longer periods but perhaps I can’t hear it due to road/wind noise etc.

I thought it may be wheel bearings, so had those swapped out and the noise persists. It legit sounds just like the rollercoaster clacking up hill sound, rather than a heat shield type rattle.

Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Did you ever get a response or figure out what was causing the issue? Mine just started the exact same roller coaster sound today. 🎢

Mine was making a similar sound on the trail Saturday. Turned out the bolts on my skid fell out so the bracket was hitting the driveshaft. I couldn't find the noise at first. Then OOPS! The trail fix was some bailing wire that someone had luckily.

Probably not your issue, but might get you looking in the right direction.

Im sorry im so late to this post. Your issue is a lining: thin metal sheets that tighten the caliper in place. I live in a neighborhood thats all cobblestone so ive had this happen a couple of times. Its cheap and easy, any brake specialist will fix it for you in no time. Ive seen people cut beer cans to replicate them, but theyre so cheap i dont think its worth the hassle. I attach a photo of where the linings should go. if you crawl in there and wiggle the caliper, you'll see that that's where it has play. Sorry im too late, but i reply hoping it may help someone else in the future
