I drive a 98 and I just bought a hardtop off a 99 just in time for the first snow of the season. I wanted to use the rear defroster but pressing the button did nothing (when the car is off holding it in causes a beeping noise for some reason). The first thing I did was see if I had the relay for it under the hood, which I do. After pulling the relay out and putting it back in, I noticed that when the car is on, and I open the door, the light for the rear defroster comes on, and stays on when I shut the door. If I open the door again, shutting it causes the light to turn off. After 10 minutes the light will turn off as it should, but pressing the button still does nothing. I tested the voltage at the defroster grid and there is power there when the light is on.
Out of curiosity I pulled fuse #4 out to see if the defroster light would still come on when opening the door but it doesn’t and the button still doesn’t work.
If anyone has any input on why this is happening or a solution I would really appreciate it.
