some battle damage from the weekend wheeling. Looks like a rock hit the shield that is behind the rear pinion yoke.

What should I do? Should I weld it to the yoke? The axle? Cut it off?

Here is a video showing the issue.

Thanks

Mark

It is a debris shield. It can be removed without issue. Not sure how you'd remove it without removing the yoke. You make be able to just stake it back in place until you need to remove the yoke.

I wouldn't do any welding there...unless you want to replace the seal. Behind that debris shield is an oil seal and I'd be afraid of the heat from welding melting the rubber on the seal.

You think carefully throwing a few tack welds on will get hot enough to melt the seal? I’d do one tack at a time and let it cool.

Looks like it did it’s job taking a hit instead of the corner of the dif. I kind of want to keep it.
