Rearview mirror compass / temperature lights?

The temperature and compass indicator in the rear view mirror only works about 1/2 the time in my '06. I can't figure out if there is a button that needs pushed or if it's a faulty connection...where to start looking to fix this? It works for days, then just doesn't when it seems like nothing has been moved or changed (no one bumped the mirror or touched it as far as I can tell). Thanks!

If I remember right, the center button cycles between F, C, and display off. Definitely try that first. Otherwise, I’d guess it’s a connection issue or a problem in the mirror.

Mine seems to have a problem dimming the display. Sometimes the display is dimmed as if I have the dash lights on, but I don’t. Sometimes the display is full bright even though I do have the dash lights on. Perhaps yours is on but dimmed and just isn’t easily visible in bright light?

When it first came on, it was in C and I messed with that center button and changed it to F. I have pushed the button fast and held the button down but it doesn't seem to make the display come on when it's out. Mine also is only one brightness when it works, so maybe?

There’s a post somewhere, not sure if it’s this forum explaining a fix for this. The solder joints on the pc board are known for cracking and losing contact. Mine didn’t work at all when I got my Jeep,so I opened it up and sure enough there were solder runs cracked. Got out the ole dusty solder iron and redid them. Been working ever since.
I’ll hunt for the post and post it.

The compass display is a neat feature too" personally I think they are a bit big and too modern looking for a TJ but I do look at both temp and compass all the time. It would be a lot smaller if the down lights were not in it.

I have never messed with mine although I just found out it dims when you put it in reverse, I never noticed until it was mentioned in a recent thread.
