Refinishing the hardtop

My hardtop is in need of refinishing. Is there a way to do it at home and have it look professional? What products do you recommend? I want it to look pretty much like it is original. Any helpful hints or what do I tell the body shop if I take it there. Also it has two small cracks on the rear section. I'm wondering what works best to repair cracks. I think the top needs to be repainted. Thanks.

I saw a post yesterday. I’ll have to see if I can find it again. It was a tin can. Orange brush on the front. Just wipe on to reduce the faded look and swirl marks but it works for refinishing as well

Hi!! Newbie here! I just refinished my faded hardtop with spray on bed liner using about 2 1/2 rattle cans in black. I cleaned the top thoroughly with acetone, taped and papered the lower and glass and went to town! I've gotten nice reviews from people wondering what I had done. As far as I'm concerned, it was a really easy application and it looks good besides being UV tolerant and tough as nails. The hardest part was taping and papering.

My TJ Rubicon came with a grey hardtop, I painted it black myself.

It took me about 4 hours worth of prep work (sanding and stripping the rear window off and masking). Then it took me a days worth of applying multiple coats of SEM trim black spray paint (the only stuff I'd recommend as far as spray paint goes).

Years later and it looks good as new. You'd never know that it didn't come black from the factory, it looks THAT good!

For UV resistance, if you care, add a clear coat or a something. They sell uv paint it's pretty cheap.
