Regear suggestions

“Jade” is a 1997 jeep TJ, 2.5L 30rh auto with Dana 30/35... she has been given a major facelift since I rescued her in august which included 33” tires... I thought I was going to be happy with the stock 3.73 gears but where I live in Arkansas it’s a constant dance between 2nd and 3rd gear... i’ve been reading the opinions on this forum till my eyes are bleeding and I thought I had come to the conclusion that I wanted 4.56 gears so yesterday I called a local four-wheel-drive shop and ask him his pricing and he said that I wouldn’t be happy with 4.56 that I should go to 4.88… He said that everybody that he knew that had gone from 3.73 to 4:56 were not happy...He priced me $1350 for Yukon brand with a two day turnaround… Mainly a DD but have a tendency to take the road less traveled and detour on forest service roads and mountain trails... what should I get 4.56 or 4.88?

4.88 or 5.13 are the better choice.

4.56 would be fine. 4.88 would be a little excessive on the RPM side since yours is a 3-speed. Just keep in mind that while it’s a stout little motor, you’re only going to get so much power out of a 2.5 on 33s after a regear. On the trail/around town it’ll be great, but once you get up to freeway speeds is where it starts to lack.
