How hard is the install on a DIY remote start for my 04 rubicons

Shouldn’t be too difficult. Do you have an auto or manual transmission? With a manual you’d have to bypass the clutch interlock while still preventing it from starting in gear. (Otherwise you run the risk of the Jeep driving away on its own)

Its auto ...my concern is the chipped key..how to by pass it .... the wife goes out every morning and cranks it to warm up and I'm scared someone will drive off in it

I know the shifter or the steering wheel wont move without the key so that would ease my mind

A cheaper solution might be to install a block heater and a cab heater. Simply plug the Jeep in at night on a timer. 2 hours before you get up the heaters turn on and warm the engine and defrost the cabin. No fuel used, no key used, and electricity is usually cheaper anyways. Block heater costs $25; cab heater about $100. Install is simpler than remote start. Block heater goes in the frost plug, cab heater can be mounted anywhere convenient.

Just make sure you anchor the body side plug well. I’ve driven off with the block heater plugged in more than once...

My key is non-chipped but the last time I researched remote starters some of the information I read on the lower tier of remote starters mentioned that you would essentially need to hide a second chipped key in the Jeep to get it to work. I believe there are ways around that but it involves spending more.
