If you leave it in gear your Jeep will come to you and you wont have to walk as far. That sounds like a clever requirement for a manual, haha. But, yeah this limitation means it is not like a carefree automatic trans when you install one. That safety switch limits you and I am not sure I would trust it until I see how it worked. I like to have my Jeep in gear and the e-brake on when I park, so I'm with you, I would never install one of these on a manual.
Remote start would be great for cold days where you could leave the heat on and ready to go when it fires up.
It is great! when the temps get down to the freezing 50's and 60's down here in S. FL, I can have the seat heaters, steering wheel heat, and heater on in 2-3 minutes before I get out to the truck...![]()
LOL, freezing in Florida![]()
Here's the remote start that I would use-
To start a space heater in the jeep.

One time in January my son and I were in Daytona at the flea market wearing t-shirts and shorts. A woman had mittens, hat, and a heavy jacket with a hood.Hey, 50 is really cold!
I get questions like that in the winter too. "Aren't you cold?" "No, I'm from California, this is warm weather!"One time in January my son and I were in Daytona at the flea market wearing t-shirts and shorts. A woman had mittens, hat, and a heavy jacket with a hood.
She said can I ask you a question? Are you stupid? I replied that is two questions but we are from Maine, it's 30 below at home today so this feels like summah to us.
When we were in San Diego, California a "Homeless Guy" was talking to a woman holding a sign. He said now when someone comes by you tell them you are hungry, you are alone, and you are cold.I get questions like that in the winter too. "Aren't you cold?" We used to laugh at the tourists in Monterey, Ca. who had obviously spent thousands of dollars on their "Sunny California vacation". They'd have the rented convertible, top down, be dressed in tank tops, shorts, and flip flops - and the temp would be 58 degrees with a 15 knot wind! These poor people looked like Smurfs they were so blue! I was asked MANY times by such "Is it always this cold?" - "Yep, pretty much, especially in July."When we were in San Diego, California a "Homeless Guy" was talking to a woman holding a sign. When we got far enough away my son says I was going to sign up for his apprentice program but he lost me when he said you are cold. My son said I'm dying from the heat.
The first night it gets that cold I'm moving.of course on the -74 kinda nights. You just don’t turn the vehicle off.
For the next 7 months, I go where I’m told. The first night it gets that cold I'm moving.
What I found partially interesting is apparently the Jeep JL when optioned with remote start will gauge the weather and then adjust the HVAC settings based off its readings. If it's cold out, it starts the heat. If it's hot out, it turns on the AC. Although I have yet to confirm that with further reading.I had a remote start in a 2009 Kia Sportage I had. I would forget to turn the wipers off, we would get a bunch of snow during the night I would start it up in the morning, wipers would try to work it would either pop a fuse, or bending the linkage. Then I would forget to turn the heat on when I parked it since during the day the sun would roast me. I know I would leave it in gear, and the more high tech the more it costs.
I would rather run out turn on my truck, or jeep then run back in then deal with the hassle/cost of a remote start.
