Somewhat stupid question — but I am trying to decide if I want to keep my factory subwoofer or not and could use some help/brainstorming. This is my scenario -

(1) I want to install a trans temp gauge (with the actual gauge on the console right in front of the 4WD lever)
(2) I also want to get my rubicrawler installed
(3) The lack of space in the factory console with subwoofer is pretty small and I want some more storage space in that area.
(4) I would like that storage space to be somewhat secure.

Tuffy makes 2 full consoles for the TJ - one with a subwoofer and one without. I would ideally like to put one of these in my Jeep. I like the looks and having seen the subwoofer-less model, the space is pretty good. I don't really listen to much music in my vehicles and esp in the Jeep given the noise levels .. will the lack of the factory subwoofer really make a big difference at all for whatever audio quality is there now?

IMO no, not in our Jeeps at least. I went from a TJ without a subwoofer to a TJ with it, and tbh I'd rather just have the bigger center console back lol I mean I might consider looking into alternative places to mount it or maybe a different style sub, but in a vehicle that already has terrible acoustics in every way imaginable, I'd choose storage.

Losing the stock sub is no big deal, especially if you are not a music lover. You could always add a self powered sub if you felt the need for more bass, but the best test is to remove the sub now and listen to some tunes and see how you like it.

I am in process of buying the Tuffy console as well, but the sub-woofer version. Still need to call Northridge to see if they will give up a 10% off coupon like Morris 4x4 is. Did you find any decent sites to buy from?

Well I love music .. but prefer to listen to it at home than in cars. I have a very nice set of ADS L910s that I fully restored at home and listen to blues and jazz quite a bit.

The console with the speaker insert is sold out everywhere - including at Tuffy, Northridge, Quadratec, Extreme Terrain. Next available date is early October FYI. The one without the speaker is available in limited quantities. Not much luck with discounts on this item sadly.

Yeah .. I have the same line of thinking.

I believe Quadratec has it in stock as when I called Tuffy the guy said he just shipped 16 units to them, but nobody else appears to have them. I'm going to see if they will match Morris with their price of:

Interesting - when I called Quadratec couple days ago they said they don't have any with the speaker insert and expected date is in October. The Morris price is very good .. let me know if Quadratec will match the price. I will likely order the non speaker version though.

Will do...and there is currently a Tuff rebate out there, $50 back if you spend over $450, $25 if under $450.

It's pretty easy to unplug the sub. The connector is right at the front cup holder on a little bracket if you want to see the difference. Tuffy has always been really great to me dealing direct. I've heard some other stories recently but even for a few extra bucks personally I'd purchase direct. At a minimum call them and see what they say. I think they also have a scratch-and-dent on their website for about $327.

Thanks, I do plan to unplug and see what I think over the day or so.

The other thing I will have to check is if I can replace the tuffy lock cylinder with a one made by Bolt - so that I can use my ignition key. I put this in my toolbox and it works great.

Just ordered through Quadratec and they matched the 10% off coupon. I went through the online chat and had to send the guy the link to the Morris Tuffy console, and also the Morris coupon code which is in the picture I posted above. He said it would ship out next week and I should have it within two weeks, no later than that.

This is great, thanks for sharing. I'll do the same thing.
