Removing transfer case linkage without removing skid plates?

I am trying to replace my Transfer linkage with an adjustable Terraflex rod.
As a result of many contributing factors, I am doing this by myself without an abundance of tools.

I have already removed a majority of the Z linkage, to include the bracket on the tub. What I CAN NOT figure out though, is how to remove that last piece that is actually connected to the actual Transfer!

Any advice (other than scrap that Terraflex and get a cable linkage!) would be greatly appreciated!

It's been a while since I've done it. Iirc I used a ratcheting wrench. That said, just drop the skid. It's faster and if you have rust issues you'll have to deal with them at some point anyway so why not now?

How much play is there between the transfer and transmission? When I look underneath, it looks like if I drop a skid plate then L lose support for one or the other. If this is NOT the case...damn...I am all over it like white on rice.
But if the skids are supporting the weight...then not so much.

I attempted it with the skid plate in place, and all I can tell you is that it's next to impossible. You'd have to be a contortionist or a sick individual to attempt it, especially when the skid plates are so easy to remove.

I would just use a jack stand if you have one to support the transmission while you drop the skid. That's what I always did, and it works great.

Support the trans and pull the skid. Easy job.
