Repaint option

Thinking of Repaint on 2000 TJ. Currently dark green with tan hardtop. Green ok but some spots are faded and top is really faded. Thinking of lighter silver color with black top. Even though jeep is not much to paint it's pretty pricey. Someone mentioned a wrap. Looks just like paint, a fraction of the price, removable with no damage to original paint. Anyone have experience with wrap? Thanks

A good wrap can last 7 plus years. A TJ is relatively easy to wrap due to the fact that it doesn't have many curves. You could probably expect to spend $1500 plus for a good wrap.

Doing a color change paint job is a ton of work if you want to do it properly (meaning painting under the hood, door jams, etc.) and will probably run more than a wrap for a good quality paint job (due to the amount of labor involved).

That's what I've heard. If it looks just as good, can give me 7+- years, and doesn't damage anything (isn't permanent) I think I'll try it out. Having a LOT of upgrades done. Will post before and after pix. 4" OME lift, sye, 33x12.5x15, new axels/gears, bumpers, etc. prob go light silver with black trektop for versatility and keep hard top tan (won't have it on much at all). I think the color will look good with original tan interior.

That's my thought on the wrap as well. If you can get 7+ years out of it, for the price I think it pays for itself. Plus, it makes it super easy to change colors.

Sounds like you've got some good upgrades in the works. Be sure to post some photos once it's all done. I really like the tan interior, so I think your choice of color would look good indeed, especially with the tan.

I like this idea. Not having one before does anyone know if it will hold up to manzanita scratches?

From what I've read about wraps one of the benefits is if a section gets scratched, etc you can remove just that section and replace it. A lot more cost effective than paint. Not sure how 'tough' it is but we'll see....

This is true. I have a good buddy who does wraps for a living. They will hold up to scratches, as long as we are not talking about really deep ones (such as your girlfriend keying your car).

I actually think the matte looks pretty cool!

A good buddy of mine owns a shop that does vinyl wrapping. You can get soooooo many colors and patterns it's crazy! He says it's really durable, so long as you don't use cheap stuff.

Yeah we have several vehicles running around with the full wrap. Some are 10 years old and they still look good.
