Rubicon Rear Locker Confusion

Hello!

In a new to me 2006 Rubicon TJ, the rear locker light doesn’t turn solid when trying to engage the rear locker. The locker does not engage.

A code pointed to a faulty axle locker sensor, which was replaced with a Mopar part (52104610AA).

Now the lock would engage, the light would still flash, but most importantly, the lock would not disengage at all anymore. Had to disconnect the switch to disengage the lock.

Both compressors are functioning normally.

Is this behaviour an indicator for anything common you could point me to?

You will get all kinds of locker problems and flashing locker lights if you don't install the new sensor correctly. The locker MUST be removed to get the locker sensor correctly position so its spring-loaded sensor rod button head is located on the 'other' side of the locker's actuator plate like shown here. Just inserting the locker sensor without the locker removed will place the sensor on the wrong side of the actuator plate.

Once the locker is removed, tie a string like fishing line around a toothpick trimmed to the the correct length to hold the new sensor fully extended past its normal spring-loaded resting position.

Then reinstall the locker and pull the string to pull the toothpick out. The sensor will be correctly positioned after doing that.

Make darned sure to note the correct position for the two bearing caps that hold the locker in place so they get replaced on the same sides they came off from and in the same up-down orientation. Torque the bearing cap mounting bolts to 80 ft-lbs.

Have you verified air pressure at the hose going into the diff?
