Sadness & pissed at the same time!

So I have a 06 LJ Rubi & was in the process of putting the hardtop back on yesterday.....Well it was about 3 feet up and the back hook twisted off and BAM! Both back corners crushed & shattered the back glass. Why are these things so dam heavy! The jku hardtop is a breeze compared to this one.

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that!

I use a hoist to get my hardtop on-and-off, so I've never had this issue. They are heavy though!

The JKUs have the removable freedom panels (which are a curse as far as leaks go), which makes getting the hardtop on much easier.

Brutal, good news is a body shop or boat repair place can probably fix it up. Save you buying a very expensive hard top.

I agree....if its nothing structural I'm sure you'll be able to get that repaired...but yeah I'd be pissed too.

It's probably only a couple hundred bucks to repair minus the window. Probably not worth the claim.

And then I thought, a bunch of pulleys and ropes, 8' above a concrete floor.... what could go wrong?? so I built a table, and rather than hoisting, I slide it off. The tables about 1" higher so a bit of lift and then slide it on or off. And that table was the handiest thing ever when the roof was on the Jeep.

I’d like to have one. They are damn expensive! Soft top isn’t much easier just more forgiving. I still cuss like a drunken sailor/ 4 wheeler when I rework tops

I built the same thing. Its a horseshoe shaped dolly with wheels on the bottom, just slide it off and on.

Problem is, they're expensive and they take up a ton of room. However, you'd never have to worry about what just happened with your hardtop.

As for the freedom top, you're lucky. It seems like every single JK owner I come across is always complaining about leaking freedom top panels. I know @StG58 has had the same issue with his wife's JK.

Body shop told me 400 then 300 for window. I'm gonna attempt it myself.

I had to replace the rear window on my old hardtop. I got a perfect one from a junkyard and installed it myself in less than an hour. Very easy job to do, and they only charged me $100 for the window!

I don't see a version that says it is for a TJ, although I don't know why it wouldn't work for us. But at $1100.00 +/-, I'll stick with my engine hoist setup. At least that way I can set it on my cart. That thing is quick, though, if you have a place to store it with the top on it.

They work with the TJs as well (I've seen it done), but yes, the price is absurd. Not to mention it takes up a lot of space in the garage. But if I had one of those massive garages, I think that's definitely the route I would go.

Sorry to hear OP, that does really suck. I have to find a solution for mine too, but I haven't decided. I saw this shop crane, if you don't already have one that would work. I really like the one Chris posted since you can park underneath it to save space. Not sure you can do that with eBay one and the shop crane, or if it would be safe to do that (assuming it could lock in place and not count on the hydraulic arm to keep the lift for long periods of time?).
