Should my front drive shaft spin in 2WD?

Had a same issue and now my front passenger side u-joint needs to be replaced. Most likely yours is starting to wear out. Looks like it is relatively easy job. $20 part at Napa.
 
Yes , if your jk clunk when accelerate , front axle u joint need replace or front drive shaft , and this happen to my jk u joint axle make clunk in 2wd mode

When you replaced the front drive shaft it stopped the pop can pop noise in the front on 2W ? I thought the front drive shaft is disconnected in 2W?
Askeing because I have the same problem and not sure if I should replace the front drive shaft or not.
