Should there be any gap between the control arm and mount?

Last year I replaced the front lower control arms. Recently I've noticed a light thump sound when I turn or stop quickly. I looked underneath and the frame and everything seem fine but then I was looking at the control arms. I took a couple pics. Should there be any gap where it mounts on the axle side? Shouldn't the bushings be flush against that bracket?

Ok yeah that makes sense. What about if it seems like the front end is shifted more to one side? Seems like it is farther over on the driver's side. You can kind of see it compared with the end of the bumper. I've noticed it before but it drives straight, aligns properly
