Slipping transfer case chain

So I think I have a slipping transfer case chain... when in 4wd high or low the chain seems to catch because I can go down the road without hearing it but when I put the jeep back in 2wd the chain seems to stay on for a minuite but eventually what I think, is pops off and begins making the chain rattling sound, again if it is the chain it only does it in 2wd where it pops off and begins the grinding chain noise

Chains can stretch, it happens with an increase in milage and abuse. Crown auto make a chain replacement that is easy to swap.

Check your T-case shifter adjustment. If it is not fully engaging, it can pop out and make a grinding noise.
There are several You Tubes about how to adjust it.
