Smelly Jeep

First post here. I’ve been enjoying lurking for a while. My son bought a 2000 TJ back in July and I have since bought it from him. I’ve been spending the last month or so getting it fixed up to my liking. Last major problem for now is the smell. When we originally brought it home it smelled like the previous owner smoked in the Jeep and hauled lots of oily and greasy things. We thoroughly cleaned the inside multiple times. For the past 2 months the doors and all windows have been off (soft top only) and the smell seemed to be almost gone. I recently put doors and windows back on and when I turn the heat on it's like that original stink when we brought it home. So I guess my question is, Is there any way to get the smell out of the duct work for the heater ( no A/C ) without removing it? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Actually, I do have access to one and hadn’t thought about that. I’ll give it a try but I don’t think there’s a recirculate mode for the fan.

Can you leave your jeep in Acc mode and run the AC. Probably know this but dont be inside the jeep with the ozone machine when you shut the door.

I don’t have AC but I could leave the fan on. Thanks for tip on not being in there with ozone machine running. My brother-in-law actually has a couple of these machines.

Turn the vent on, turn the HVAC fan onto about the #2 setting, then spray Lysol into the HVAC intake below the cowl jn front of the windshield. The fan will draw the Lysol into and throughout the ducting. Hold the spray on for 15-20 seconds then immediately shut fan off & close the vemt. Leave it off for a day or two. A couple days over repeat. That'll kill any mold growing inside the ducts. Febreeze on the carpeting and interior can perform miracles where easier to reach odors are concerned
