I have a stock TJ. Currently running 31x10.5x15 on the stock alloys, I like this size on stock, with the 3.73 gears. No plans on a lift or going bigger. Lots of questions below......

Here is the snow tire I think is the one to go with for 3-4 months a year: https://www.tires-easy.com/235-75-16/nokian-tires/nordman-7-suv-studded/tirecode/TS32305 235/75/16

Should I go for 15 or 16 inch wheels for studded snows?

From what I have researched, the snow tire can be more narrow, and a size smaller, for best performance in snow and ice. 235/75R16 seems like the right size down from even the stock tire size of 30x9.5x15. I used a tire size chart online to figure it out and do a sizing comparison. https://tiresize.com/calculator/ Obviously I need a set of 16 inch rims for this specific tire above, and I am going with 16 inch because it seems there are more choices specifically for Nokian brand studded snows, as compared to a 15 inch rim. I do not want to put a snow tire on that looks ridiculously small and I can't seem to find a Nokia with studs thats big enough in 15 inch, UNLESS I stud them myself.

So I am thinking of finding super cheap rims from Craigslist or just buy some 16'' steel wheels at $80 each. If I could find a 15 inch studded snow tire that is similar in size to a 235/75R16 then maybe I just get some $39 buck steelies from Quadrasuck. (I do order stuff once in a while from them if the price is right.)

I have found non-studded in 235/75/15 that have stud holes, and I would have to install studs or get a shop to. Is this a good idea, to get the tires and then figure out how to stud them?

Would a 205/70/15 tire look too small??? I think so

I could also get a set of takeoff JK 17'' wheels for $200 on CL, and find 17inch studded snows.

Decision....decisions...
