Snow vs BF Goodrich Mud-terrain

I sold my 22 year old Ford Ranger today. Bittersweet. I already miss her. She had BF Goodrich All-Terrains and they were amazing on snowy roads.

My Jeep currently has BF Goodrich mud-terrains. Who has experience with these mud-terrains on snow covered pavement? Will they slide everywhere? If so, I'll buy a 2nd set of wheels and put the all terrains on for winter.

I'm in Kentucky where we either get light snow or a state of emergency is called for a foot.

MT tires generally suck in packed snow (no, they really suck actually). They do nicely in powder and loose snow, but if you plan on driving on plowed snow roads, they aren't good at all in my experience.

On the other hand, I have Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac AT tires, and they do exceptionally well in the packed snow.

Can confirm, My BFG KM2s are awful on snowpack.
I haven't done it but many people sipe the inner lugs and claim it helps. Might try it for the upcoming winter.

Sipping works, but then it makes the MTs get damaged easier if you do lots of sharp rocks (so I hear).

Yessir, that is the tradeoff.

MTs are awful in snow. Snow tires pack the fine tread and sipes with snow which then sticks to the snow like a snowball as you drive. MTs have no where to pack the snow and drive like slicks on snow.

Traction in snow is all about never spinning the tires. Hence truckers curse when they "spin out".

I have the new version that are sipped. I think I'll try these for a few days in snow before pulling the trigger on a 2nd set of wheels & tires.

I'm well aware. I'm a pro in snow. Having the best grip helps tremendously.
