Snubbed by the Snubbers

Searched for Snubber related posts but found only the need for longer snubbers. I previously had my spared tire, Yokohama Geo Landar 10x31x15 mounted on a black steel wheel. The spare mounted right up and the tire was in direct contact with the snubbers. Bought a Ravine wheel for the spare to march my other wheels. Had the spare mounted on the new Ravine wheel yesterday. I tired to mount the spare on my TJ this AM and found that with the snubbers installed the spare could not be mounted. I removed the snubbers and voila the spare mounted right up. Does anyone make thinner snubbers. I could cut the old snubbers but would prefer to not do so. I guess I could try the hockey puck solution.

There were 2 different length snubbers on TJ’s. I dont know if these will help you or not.

The previous owner of mine bought an extra set and cut extensions out of the second set. I guess it could work the other way, you should get another set and cut them shorter.

Just use some cut PVC pipe as a spacer .. it works great.

The snubbers I have are the smaller 1.62" ones. I am going to have to either cut the ones I have or custom make some.

I had a similar problem with my spare too until I got new wheels. Hockey pucks work really well. I was able to get them pretty cheap for Dick's Sporting Goods. You probably need two stacked equalling about 2". the stock rubber bumpers (snubbers) are roughly 3" I think. Just drill a hole in the center of the pucks, stack them, bolt them up and you should be good.

Thanks - two inches would be too big. with the tire mounted without the snubbers there is about 1" of space between the back of the tire and the tailgate. The stock snubbers measure just a shade over 1.5". I think that a single hockey puck (1" thick) might do the trick. Dicks has them for $1.99 each.

Just make sure to use Grade 8 bolts on the snubbers...

I had the same problem. Bought a couple used ones off Ebay for something like $7 to have as backups in case I fudged and trimmed down so they'd fit properly. Worked great.
