So my catalytic converter has imploded (asking for advice)

Unfortunately Jeeps do not have MAF sensors. If they did, what you're describing does indeed sound like a bad MAF sensor.

This is hard to diagnose without a check engine light or error code. You're going to end up throwing a lot of money at it if you just guess. It might be easy for us to diagnose in person, but over the internet may be harder. If this was my vehicle and I couldn't figure it out, I'd probably take it to a reputable Jeep mechanic and have them figure out what it is.

I only say that because I hate to keep saying "maybe it's _____", have you replace it, and then it ends up not fixing the issue and being a waste of money.

I'll be darned, never assume anything as the saying goes. I had to check, Chris is correct, no mass air flow sensor. I need to eat some humble pie here. Sorry for the misinformation. I hope you get to the bottom of it.

No worries! Most modern vehicles do have MAF sensors, so I don't fault you there. We all learn something every day anyways!

I do agree though, it certainly sounds like symptoms of a vehicle with a bad MAF sensor (which I've experienced before on other vehicles I've owned in the past).

Sorry to revive this old thread, but the issue seems to be gone after the alternator was replaced. Really weird, glad its fixed though. Got tired of guessing and checking systems lol.
