I have 33" tires and 4.56 gears. The chart we generally use here says a 39 tooth gear. The advanced Adapter chart from my SYE says 36 tooth. What say you? I have the 39 installed. No measured mile markers here to test it.

You could always just say screw the speedo gear and get a Speedo Healer. Yes, it's more expensive, but it allows you to dial it in to the T.

Use GPS, grimmjeeper.com/gears and figure it out. You can always figure out the real numbers with that.
Interesting tool. This I might buy. Chris, I recently had a shop swap my SYE onto a new transfer case (it was too hot to work under it at the time) and the turkeys did not follow the written instructions or verbal ones I gave and they stripped out the speedo gear on the SYE by not pulling the speedo gear first. Jeep now stalls when driving and stopping abruptly. Is that likely the computer is confused?
I had one on my TJ and it worked great. They have an app to use with it that makes it easy to program in the correct numbers, and it works really well. It's more than a speedo gear, but I like that it offers you flexibility incase you ever c change tire sizes.
I don't think that stripped speedo gear would have anything to do with those issues you're experiencing. I only say that because I've heard of people whose speedometer wasn't working at all, yet their TJ was still driving just fine.
The only other time my Jeep stalled was when I was have different speedo issues. Coincidence I suppose.

When choosing a new gear though, I would go for one that is meant for 32" tires, as I'm fairly certain if you measure your tires, you'll find they are much closer to 32 than 33.
My BFG KO2 tires are 315/70R17. According to the BFG specs, they measure 34.4". When I measured them brand new with the vehicle on the ground and 35 psi, they measured almost exactly 3.25" (same thing with @Starrs and his KO2s as well).
That being said, I always find tires are smaller than what the manufacturer claims.

Go to the ap store and download a gps speedo for free. Then you can know exactly what you need. The 32's on my 06 Rubi have the gps and speedo agree until I'm going over 73 mph. And then it's off by only 1 mph. Can't get much better than that!
