I was nearing the end of a 9 hour drive when I noticed a squealing sound, it almost sounds like a bearing going out, however, it isn't one of the pulleys, not the belt, and sounds further back near the transmission. I have the 4.0 with a manual 5 speed, with 130k miles and about 3000 miles on a new clutch. the sound speeds with rpms, doesn't start until about 18k rpm, and usually goes away at idle. pushing down on the clutch does not make a difference in the sound. I changed the transmission fluid and that didn't fix the sound. also, it makes the sound while stopped as well. any ideas? thanks! - Tyler

When I drive mine to school, about 4.5 hours, it wines just like that for about the last hour. It then goes away about a week later. I have tried transmission fluid and everything as well. IDK what it could be. Sorry.
Now that I think about it, I noticed a new, small amount of oil leaking somewhere near and above the oil filter, which would make sense if it came from the OPDA. While I'm not sure if the leak is related to a failing OPDA, the sound I found on YouTube is basically the exact sound! I will be replacing this tomorrow and will let you guys know if it fixed it! Thanks!
Mine is a 98 2.5L. From reading up on it, most people do not have this problem on these models during this year. Therefore IDK if replacing the oil pump would help me.

it did, however mines a 2001 and does not have a opda. i changed the oil and oil filter to see if there was shards and if that could tell me anything. nothing out of the ordinary, and the oil wasnt that bad in color. i havent heard the sound sense. not sure how it stopped or what caused it at this point.
It is totally possible it is a crank bearing. Crank bearings if it is low on oil can squeak like you stated.
Just a little talk about your transmission. If the Jeep is idling in neutral without the clutch pedal pushed, the front bearing in the trans is spinning, but the torque is lost past there. If you push the clutch in, the front bearing stops, and the throw-out bearing spins. At that point, the transmission is fully disconnected from the engine. That means the clutch is spinning, but the transmission is not. So if it is squeaking in neutral with the clutch pressed, it is not in your transmission.
I would guess that you changing your oil may have quieted your issue. Watch your oil pressure closely for a while. It kind of sounds you might have been late on the oil change? Was the oil low by chance when you changed it?
