Steering shaft noises after steering riser install

So I put the new riser bracket on to accommodate the body lift and the steering while less weird acting, stiffened up a little. Trying now to figure out what is causing odd noises in the steering (like mild floppy sounds when low speed turning, but not always) and wondering if it is this rubber thingie that the shaft comes through at the firewall. Does it appear jammed in there? Should it be relaxed beyond the firewall?

The rubber boot looks exactly like mine. I don't think it's supposed to telescope out any further.

I jammed a turd load of red grease up on both sides of the firewall thingie and the noise went away. Mine is a little stiff still, but I attribute that to the piece of shit "new" steering box the dealership put in. Oddly enough shops kept telling me the 1"+ play I had now was due to the trac bar. Replaced the TB with a RockJock JJ bar and amazingly didn't do a thing to address the play. So I will eventually be replacing the box.

See how his steering shaft isn't centered in the hole? I'd bet yours is doing that if it changed steering effort by installing a riser. Cutting and welding is the easiest way to put the shaft exactly where it should be.

Silicon spray is the recommended lube for that grommet.

This is what mine looks like. You can see the rub mark on the bottom is where it was rubbing before I put the bracket on. I pulled that boot all the way in the cab and it got a little bit better. Not sure how to make the shaft be a little more centered in the firewall hole.

It needs to come up more. Unbolt the riser and lift up the shaft til it is centered,then look at how big the gap is.

How big is the body lift?
