Kenwood head unit (Radio,CD,USB)
FRONT Originals replaced with 5in JBL in dash
REAR 6 speaker sound bar where I replaced the stock 6in speakers with Soundstream ones... need to save my cents for an under-seat bass speaker.

I have a pioneer head unit and 5.25 Polk speakers in front and back sound bar. A noticible difference but am told if I add tweeters in my dash it will improve more. It has not been tested with my top off yet. But am guessing it will be better than stock for sure

if you get a powered sub like the Rockford Fosgate PS-8 or Sound Ordnance, I guarantee you it will make a giant difference!

I have a Kenwood head unit. I replaced all the speakers with Kicker's. It's a seven speaker system so I also replaced the console sub with a 6 1/2" kicker sub and a 200 watt amp. Would Love to install a bigger sub but as you know TJ's don't have much room.

I am still stock at the head unit and front speakers. Pioneer 5.25 in sound bar. It’s a definite upgrade over stock.

I may try aftermarket up front and go from there.

You will need wiring adaptors for the speakers (head unit is always a given) but I didn’t research this so I built cheap Quick adaptors

The lack of room is why I did this. You'd never know it was there, except the great sound!

It's a Rockford Fosgate PS-8. The speaker is 8" and is a powered sub, so it's just this box in the picture (all-in-one). There are three that are recommended at different price points.

Kicker @$299 (often refurbished at $149, but I'm always leary)

Rockford Fosgate @$172

Sound Ordnance @$150

At those prices I'd spring for the Rockford Fosgate PS-8. It has 25w more power than the Sound Ordnance and is more reliable according to the reviews, though some say they have no problems...

I would search some threads before pulling the trigger on stuff. If you go with 5.25 speakers in the front you will need brackets to modify them to bolt in. They are cheap, but also need to cut the original brackets to make them fit. All easy to do. 5.25 speakers fit great in the sound bar nothing extra but some polyfil to stuff in the air pockets in the sound bar.

That's why I just went with the 4x6 Polks in the dash. I know people argue against the sound quality of a speaker that is not round, but I just didn't want to mess with extra brackets and modifying in that way. Besides, I like having different size speakers in my vehicle (4x6, 5.25" and 8"). It gives a nice balance to the range of sound. If you want 5.25" all around, you are having the same sound coming from all directions. The 5.25" is a mid range speaker.

If I had limitless funds I'd install some tweeters in the upper corners of my windshield, 4x6 in dash, 5.25 in soundbar, an 8" under the rear seat and a 12" behind the rear seat. Just sayin!

Yup. You now sound like a audio specialist. I was looking for some baffles on Friday in town and ended up at an audio store who's owner is a tj expert and guru!! I hit the jack pot! For real! I spent 2 hours chatting and him checking over my jeep and asking him a thousand questions! It's so nice to know there is someone local . And he's a gear head!! He reassured me after crawling under my jeep I shouldn't worry too much About my rust if I get what I have protected. Amongst other things. But my rust issue has been holding me back.
Btw, he said tweeters were needed also:).
