That is EXACTLY my point. Those fucking things destroy and ruin everything they touch, not the least of which is critical thinking skills. Its very obvious when you're exposed to a culture where they haven't had the chance YET to do as much damage as they have here in the US. The societal and monetary costs of the smartphone and the worldwide obsession with them and catering to them is beyond massive.
I long for the days when I naively just thought of them as only an overpriced toy.
I even long for the days when I was only annoyed with the expectation that I participate in this nonsense.
But now I find myself increasingly in agreement with certain fundamentalist Christians that these things are also a spiritual peril and a "tool of Satan." I *REALLY* dislike agreeing with fundamentalist Christians about much of anything; yet here we are...
Oh, absolutely. Even though we didn't drink the water!
Although I am not a fundamentalist Christian , I think I understand your take on things . I do believe we see many things in society at large that show a decline in the good aspects of culture . Many things affect this decline , family roles being set aside for " me time " , farming your kids out to the public school machine etc.. The smartphone is a result , rather than a cause of this downward spiral in my opinion . Greed and selfishness of man is likely at the heart of the matter.
Dark spiritual forces come in to play , but the heart of man doesn't need a lot help to fall into a deep pit .
