Anybody repaired a broken tilt? 97 Wrangler. The tilt latch on left side of column just flops back and forth like it's not attached, can't change the tilt. Just looking for insight before I tear into it. Or if there's even a point.

Have you looked at the cable where it ties into the mount? Cable break or unmount?
I haven't tore into it yet. Did find a youtube video today showing the cable assemby. So at least now I have a starting plan.

This is what I did to correct the tilt steering on my TJ. The arm was loose and would not engage the tilt mechanism.

Interesting video. However, my 1998 (and most likely his 1997) are completely different. I believe it changed in 2001.
Interesting, I thought the tilt system was all the same on the tj’s.
How do the earlier columns different?
Pull plastic tabbed handle and it pulls on the cable which then allows you to raise and lower the column.
I think I like that setup better. I've had mine apart several times to adjust it. It works fine for a few months, then the arm starts falling down again.
Hey, sorry to hijack this thread a little bit, but I was just messing with the steering column on my 97 SE, which did not come with the tilt feature. But it appears to have everything in this picture except for the cable and the black tilt lever. Is this something I can easily install on my 97? In fact, I was wondering what the point of the big white (yellow) plastic piece was, since it looked like a tilt function without a lever attached.
I'm not sure but if you get something into that area where the cable attaches and pull on it, does the assembly with the big white (yellow) plastic piece move? If so, you should be able to convert it.
