Tips for painting (Sahara) fender flares

I want to swap out the stock plastic fender flares on my 2002 non-Sahara TJ with body painted Sahara fender flares that I purchased used.

Both the fronts and rears will need a new coat of paint - the fronts are actually a completely different color than my TJ so I will need to take them from maroon to black.

Does anyone here have any tips for this project?

Clean the flares with a multi-surface cleaner like Simple Green or similar, then scuff them good with a grey Scotchbrite pad to get a mechanical bite. Clean again, then wipe down with wax/grease remover. From here you can choose to either use a primer, or go directly to black. I use SEM Trim Black. Apply thin coats and let dry 10 minutes between coats.
