Tire rotation?

Who out there does their own tire rotation? Back when I had a full size Bronco with 31x10's I used to rotate them myself. I then bought an F150 with more basic tires and got used to having them done at the tire shop (had it for 12 years). Now my "new" TJ has 33x12's with some large wheel weights and I am wondering if there are any issues with balance,etc doing them myself again. Also, what rotation schedule are ya'll using?

I do my own 5 tire rotation, and only take it to the tire shop when I need a balance. I find its really easy to tell when I need the tires balanced again. Whether I threw a weight or whatever always shows up as the same slight vibration and shimmy over certain bumps.

I got sick of going to the tire shop, having to hand them the print out of the rotation I want, requesting no balance (I do this because it usually takes two or three tries to have them balanced right, so I wait until they actually need a balance) poking my head in the shop to remind them no balance, when they head over to the machine, keeping track of which tire goes where and reminding them where they go when they get confused.

Yeah, my tire shop isn't very good, and I have a bit of a reputation there for coming back again and again until they get it right lol

I rotate every oil change, but I run mud terrains, and they are notorious for wearing funny when most of your driving is pavement pounding.

I do a 5 wheel rotation too, I rotate them all counter clockwise every 3k.

My spare is unusable for rotation since it is pretty worn and has a couple of visible plugs. Obviously from an older set but at least it is the same size as the ones on the ground. Is it better to do a criss-cross rotation or back to front on the same side when just rotating four tires?

I always thought it was kind of a hybrid of the two. Front wheels go straight back and the rear wheels cross forward.

Not sure if it's right, but that's how I do mine.

I rotate my KO2s every other oil change (6000 miles). This is the correct way to rotate with your spare. Even for me so far

Admittedly I do rotate my tires, but I never rotate the spare... I probably should next time.

I agree. My spare isn't matching (yet) though, which is why I haven't done it. Next round of tires I will!

If you get tires mounted and balanced with large amounts of weights on one side then ask the tire guy to rotate the tire on the wheel. This worked for a few sets of hard-to-balance tires got in the past, mostly the Treadwights.

I rotate my spare by removing it and turning it around so it's evenly baked.

Matching spare(s), five tire rotation as as shown above. (I've got two spares for the Suburban so it's a six tire rotation) Rotate every oil change while the oil is draining out.

Seriously, I rotate my tires (4 way) every second time that I do a service which is at 5,000km intervals ... so every 10,000km (about 6,100 mi.).
