Tires that are taller than 33 and narrower than 12.50?

Looking to replace the 315/70/17 tires on my LJ. Which is basically 35x12.50. I'm on a 4" currie lift and 1" body lift. I go back and forth on the 33s looking too short. I also hate how far I need to poke out with 12.50 widths. I have a few options here:

1. Get a 33 that "runs large". I know some brands and models run larger than others. Plenty of narrower 33s (or metric 33s) available.

2. Get some kind of 34ish with 11.5ish width. There are a few metric options here, but mostly expensive, mostly mud tires, and mostly load e. Things like 305/70/17, 295/70/17, 285/75/17, 295/75/16, 305/70/16, etc.

3. Get a 35 that "runs small". I wasn't sure if tires that "run small" only came up short on diameter, or if it also included width.

Also, do they make narrower 35s?

I was actually interested in those for my rubicon before. Theyre like 33.1 right?
I think there's also a 255/80/17 which would be about the same. Not set on 17s though.

You need to decide if you want an AT or MT. X2 on the BFG KO2 if you want an AT. Also checkout the GY Duratrac, not sure if they make the size you're looking for.

The BFG KM2 were small for a 35, though seem to have a weak side wall. Not sure about the KM3, I haven't seen them much.

At least with Goodyear, the 315/75R16 is the same tread width and outer diameter as a 35×12.5R(x). So those are probably too wide. I believe the 315/70R17 are smaller diameter than the 315/75R16 by almost 1/2".

Alternatively, 6.25" flares barely cover the tread on 35x12.5 or 315s with 3.75" of backspacing on (X)×8 wheels.

Vinman, I did read about those ko2s. Definitely want to look up a price, and I know bfgs tend to run small.

Suicide, definitely more interested in AT. If I have to go MT, I could go with a mild one. This isn't a daily after all. Ill check out duratacs too.

Steel, thanks for correcting me on those heights. Tire size calc says the 16s are .2" taller at those sizes. I also have 6" flares right now, and 315/70/17 on 8.5 wheels with 3.5 total backspacing. They pretty much cover all the tread, but not the sidewalls. But that's only part of my problem with the width. I also would be happy with a narrower contact patch and lighter tire.

If you're wanting something narrower in a metric tire, look for something that is a 285 or smaller. 285 is about 11.2" wide and 255 is going to be about 10" wide but I could only find those in E load, so that's something to watch out for.

285/70R17 works out to about 33x11.2 which is what I put on my Jeep most recently. There are several for this tire size in a C load.

samobius, that is why I was hoping to run 285/75/17. It's closer to a 34x11.5 than a 33x11.5. Not sure I can get load C though. I have seen a few pics of LJs with 5" of lift and the 33s look tiny on some.

Fughuert, I'll check out the swampers, but aren't most of those really aggressive and not great for the street? Also, don't the run large (true to size)?

After some more reading, I want to stick with 15 or 16 inch wheels.

There are a few options in the 295/75R16 size. These are all measured in the 33.3-33.4 x 11.6-11.8 range. Might be a bit short, but better than 33s with my 5" lift. There are limited options. They're all Load E, aside from the Nitto Terra Grappler. They are also all All Terrain tires.

If I go to the 315/75R16 size, these can be anywhere from 34.5-34.8 x 11.9-12.5 in measured size. So basically a 35 in height with a handful of slightly narrower options in there. There are more options here. Again, all load E, aside from the Terra Grappler. There are some muds and hybrids here too though. I like that a couple of these are only 11.9" wide.

Last option would be to find some 15x8 wheels and go with a regular 35x12.50. These measure from 34.5-35 x 12.2-12.5. Surprisingly not a ton of options here if I want to avoid full on mud terrains. These are all load C.

Top choices are:

295/75R16
Nitto Terra Grappler (D) - 33.27x11.73 - 57.9lb (lightest, load D, affordable, still pretty short)

315/75R16
Dick Cepek Trail Country EXP (E) - 34.8x11.9 - 62lb (light for this size, and narrow for this size)
Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3 (E) - 34.5x11.9 - 67lb (smallest dimensions, but also on the heavy side)
Goodyear Duratrac (E) - 34.8x12.3 - 64lb (good weight, looks cool, good reputation)
Toyo Open Country R/T (E) - 34.6x12.3 - 67lb (Like the idea of a hybrid, and this is by far the lightest option, and narrowest. Most other hybrids are 12.5 wide and ~71lb.)
Cooper ST Maxx E- 34.45x12.5 - 67lb (another hybrid with decent weight, but this one is wide)

35x12.50R15
Most of the same options and weights here as the 16s. Just load C and slightly lighter weight, but would need to buy new wheels.

Real talk, am I being silly worrying about 5 lb per corner and 0.5" of tire poke?

Of those, sounds like the MT Baja ATZ P3 might fit you best, only compromises on the weight.

The Goodyear Duratrac 315/75R16 are load range E, but are surprisingly flexible compared to other tires. The Goodyear MT/R with Kevlar in 315/75R16 is a Load Range D, which should be even more flexible.

I'm pretty sure Goodyear uses the same molds for the 315/75R16 and the 35x12.5 series, as the tread width and outer diameter is the same. The 315/70R17 are almost half an inch smaller than the 315/75R16.

If you run 16x8 or 15x8 wheels, it will help keep the overall profile of the tire down.

The thing about 15" wheels is I would need to buy some. This would also limit braking options, and I think the 15 on 35s looks kinda goofy sometimes. Not totally out of the question though. And I do have 5 16x8 mammoth boulders in the garage right now.

Those 255/85/16 are really cool, but are basically a 33.

I guess I could entertain removing my 1" body lift, and go down to just the currie 4". 33s would look a lot more at home on that setup.

12.50s are just really hard to cover up without ugly flares, and my state is kind of a pain about that rule

Most people use 15" wheels with 35s because they give you more sidewall protection. Black Magic brakes work great with 35s. Their Vanco BBK is more than enough stopping power and works with 15" wheels.
