Can anyone tell me if there are compatible underdash harnesses ? I have a 99 tj exactly what the manufacturing date is I don’t know but I’ll go to the shop and check and see exactly what it is one day my problem is my harness has multiple places melted and at this point it would be easier to replace the harness all together then rewire it what’s the difference in these harnesses other then soft top and hard? The fuse box looks the same in all the pictures I have looked at online I don’t want to order a harness and it not work and be stuck with it any help would be much appreciated thank you 🙏

Some punctuation would be much appreciated. And I'm not clear on what the question is. Should you check the actual build date? Do you replace bad wires? Are there other harnesses?

Are the harnesses specifically for each year or do they interchange? I have had people tell me that I have to have the exact same part number on the fuse box or it will not work. My harness has lots of melted wires and it would be easier to just replace the harness the manufacturer date is 2/99

I would replace the harness with the exact same year new harness. Jeep (and most other OEMs) seem to change wire colors and pin locations every model year, sometimes less. There are a few good used Jeep parts sites around. Hopefully someone else will chime in with more specific info for you. If not I'll try and reply to keep the thread current. If no others help out you might want to start a new thread with more specific title. This ain't much, but I hope it helps a bit.

I have already went to Jeep and they told me they stopped making harnesses for my Jeep in 99 :( I have ordered a harness and will break it down and trace all wires and double check pin placement before installing it is one # off of what my fuse box has stamped on it my ending number is 509ae and this one is a 508ae but falls within my manufacturing date so fingers crossed. Thank you for the input this has been a huge headache

I know this post is old, but i have to replace the 509ae as well and was wondering if the difference in numbers(508aae-509ae) gave you any trouble. I am only able to find 509ai, 509ah, and 509am and just wanted to check and see if the harness you received worked for you.
