TJ related quandary

On the road.
I full time in an RV. The blushing bride is retiring in a year, and we will be hitting the road full time.

We own a tow vehicle, a trailer, and my TJ.

The quandary is what to do with the TJ when we jump out on the road. I can keep it, but that turns it into an expensive pain in the ass. I can sell it, but then every time we set up in the boondocks for a couple of weeks, I don't have my Jeep to run around in.

Doing Jeep stuff in the tow vehicle is unwise. Towing with the Jeep is impossible.

Not many options other than keep the TJ at a friend's house or a relative's house, or buy a motorhome instead of a TT. You could also keep a house and rent it out and store your Jeep in the garage.

If I had my way I'd have a barndominium to keep all my toys with a small section for living quarters when not on the road.

How frequently will you move? Have your wife drive the jeep, while you drive the truck and trailer. Or, get a motor home and flat tow the jeep.

I suppose that oldest daughter might keep it at her place. That would give me access to it three of four months out of the year.

That's a good question. Probably about every three or four weeks. Sometimes less, sometimes more. I'm trying to limit each "jump" to about four hours or so. 150 - 250 miles? I'd drive the Jeep, wife is a really good trailer wrangler.

The motor-home thing is definitely out. The trailer is set up for "off road" and boondocking. Heck, it's got more lift than my TJ does. We spend a lot of time on federal and state lands, and away from civilization.

The other option is to get a tow rig large enough to haul the TJ on a flat bed & tow your TT behind that... Then you can use your TJ as a run around rig as well as a trail rig.

A Class 8 rig like I was considering would be great.

Now THAT'S an avenue to explore...

Mount the trailer on a surplus military 5 Ton chassis, and flat tow the Jeep? Hmmm...

Guys call them Crawler Haulers in FB and there is a group dedicated to that. With the flat bed truck hauling the TJ you could still use the truck to run around with. And if you have base camp setup but want to go to a trail 5-6 hours away you can spend the night in the sleeper instead of tearing down camp to move.

It’s legal some places to line em up’. Maybe some of your leaps this is an option. No experience with this.

I'd hate to be driving that 5 ton around. If you're thinking of mounting the trailer onto a truck I'd go with a LMTV style rig.

Like this.

Right!? I'm known for throwing all sorts of crazy stuff at the wall, and then sorting through what sticks. The goose neck flat beds are intriguing. I need to do some math on those. The tow rig just might pull that off.
