Transfer case output not centered

I've been chasing a driveline vibration in my 02 tj. 4.0 auto. What I've found is the t-case output is not centered in the frame. I've hung a plumb bob from various points on the frame to make sure frame is square. It is. Front crank bolt is also centered. New engine mounts. Previous owner replaced trans mount. All body mounts measure square and straight. Rear axle is centered. It does have a t-case drop, which I will be removing when I do the sye and driveshaft. Skid is centered on frame. T-case is off center by 1-1/2". So not only are my u-joints in driveshaft working a horizontal plane angle, but also a thrust angle. Anybody?? Any ideas??
 
The tcase output shaft is not supposed to be centered, that's why your rear axle's pinion shaft is not centered either. Both are off toward the passenger-side. Or are you thinking your tcase is actually incorrectly installed at at an angle?

I'm not sure at this point. I'm baffled in my attempt to get the driveshaft to run parallel with the center line of the frame, offset or not. I guess I'll play with track bar adjustments using pinion as a measuring point rather that distance between frame and tire.

The axle needs to be centered and if it's a Dana 35 or Dana 44 that the TJ came with, the pinion of the rear axle will be lined up with the output shaft of the OE 231 transfer case when everything is correct .

I guess that's a lesson learned. When adjusting rear track base, adjust it according to pinion, not distance between frame and tire.

Huh? The rear track bar length needs to be adjusted so the axle is centered. The pinion will be directly behind the TJ's 231 output shaft if the axle is a Dana 35 or Dana 44.

Center of axle is not center of pinion.

Is that correct? The driver’s side axle shaft on my Dana 44 is shorter than the passenger’s side so shouldn’t the pinion also be offset to the driver’s side?

Go take a look at your rear axle's pinion shaft, you'll find it's offset toward the passenger side, as is the transfer case's output shaft so they will line up with each other.

And yes the axle needs to be centered so the tires protrude equally out of the fender flares.
