Transfer case slips

Reading some of the post I was reading issues regarding transfer cases. On one of my fishing trips, I was on on a steep boat ramp to pull the boat out. I usually put the parking break on and put in gear since the break won't hold the jeep on any boat ramp no less this one. It always works but this time the jeep moved back about 3 to 4 inches and stopped , few seconds later did the same thing. Is it just crappy break or transmission problem. No problems during driving in 2wd or 4 wd

Probably the engine rotating together with the parking brake not be adjusted properly to hold it. The problem I always had on launching ramps was algae turning it so slick that it made both launching and recoveries dicey at times. It's not rolling from the tcase slipping.

I am going to have check the brake cable and see about putting better quality pads on the back .
My problem with launching boats is that my friends cant drive stick. And the one time someone helped me they burned 5 years off my clutch

If the transfer case is slipping it is a very loud clunk with a sudden lurch and stop or a series of loud clunks with lots of movement. So I agree with Jerry, it is probably just your engine and parking brake not holding. Transfer cases dont slip like an automatic transmission. It is way more violent. Tim

That sounds like an engine compression issue, or a slope too steep. Put it in 4LO next time. It has nothing to do with the transfer case, clutch or tranny.

If that ramp is just so steep the brake won't hold it or you just need some help until you get the brake to actually hold it this is the answer I'd go with:

Put it in 4LO next time.

I'd also add that "parking" in reverse wouldn't hurt but won't help as much as that.

This is an old video, but this is where i use 4LO to hold the TJR and trailer. This was the 4th try. He backed those supers onto the ferry landing wedge 3 times. I am in awe.

If you are a truck driver, you can imagine his thoughts thru the first 30 seconds.
