Transfer case smells hot

I am down at the beach with my jeep and put it in four wheel high for the first time since owning it after driving about a mile at 25 miles an hour you can smell it being hot is this normal?

You smell burning fluid is what you're saying? That's not normal. Is it leaking any fluids?

is it hot to the touch or does it just smell hot

may have the incorrect level or type of lubricant in there

It was very strange, After the first evening of smelling it. We took it back to the campground and it smelt normal. I'm thinking since it wan't used in a while it was old oil on the outside of it heating up perhaps? Anyhow the next three days were fine with it. SO I guess all is good!

check your levels anyway...sometimes when something stops leaking, or in this case smelling, it's because it's empty
