Transfer case won't shift

I pulled my tranny and transfer case together as a unit to replace the throw out bearing. After reinstall the clutch works fine but the transfer case is stuck in 2 hi and won't shift. I did work on the linkage a little but it won't even shift with the linkage disconnected. My 99 4.0l has the dropped tranny so that it sits on the lowered skid plate (if that makes a difference). Any help is appreciated. I'm pulling my hair out.

Sorry forgot to say 5 speed, but that is probably obvious.

This is embarrassing but just so no one wastes time replying I will fess up. I had the linkage pivot rod rotated 180deg and I was trying to shift the case lever up instead of down. Works perfectly now.

That's what I was thinking. Years of F-ing up linkages and you start to catch it a bit quicker.
