Yes it could be a switch but you really need to check wires first because it could be a broken or wire or missing ground. I mean you can throw parts at it and hope to get lucky, but it might be something else. Certain theft devices will stop it from starting too.
The reason why I don't think it is your ignition switch is because you don't have dash lights. Unless that is the only part of the switch that is bad. Because your switch has off-on-crank. It is weird that yo have off and crank but no on. I would venture to guess you have a open wires somewhere or missing a ground. It could be a fuse making it open. It could be a few things, but It is hard to diagnose like this without doing tests.
Try turning the key on and wiggling it. see if you can get dash lights or guages. Try leaving the key on and wiggling wires in and under the column see if you can get gauges. Without tracing power it is hard to tell you what the issue is, but I do think it is something with the ignition system in the car.
Honestly I am thinking you might have a couple of problems, but we have to start with the no gauges or warning lights first.
