Trusted Jeep Mechanics

Just moved to Golden, CO area from Virginia, and brought my 2001 TJ. Before I hit the mountains with it, I want to make sure its ready for Colorado off-roading. Can anyone recommend a mechanic in this area I can trust with my jeep? Thanks!

Haha, no - after 30 years of too much traffic, too many people, and having to drive an hour and a half just to get to some good off-roading, the call of the Colorado mountains overwhelmed me!

I would just do it yourself. Give it a good once over. Check/ change fluids, tires, bushings and definitely brakes if you’re in the mountains! If there are no current issues, it’ll be straightforward.

Learn and do it at home, no one cares more about your Jeep than you do.

Being from Colorado, there is a shop in Boulder called John’s 4x4, I highly recommend them after needing to use them (2) times.

They are very knowledgeable, and have been established for several years. They are very good about telling you, and showing you any problems they come across while servicing your vehicle, along with getting prior approval before touching anything.

One other shop to know about, Colorado Gear and Axel. Al has been there 20 plus years, honest and believes repeat customers and word of mouth are the best way to advertise. Trust me, he is not the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but definitely the most honest. He will help you anyway he can.

I drive north 2-3 hours to use these two shops when needed. I have “Trust Issues”..........lol!

I agree it’s a dry heat. I don’t consider it hot until it reaches 110. First rule you learn is to not put any metal tool down in the sun and pick it up with bare hands. PCM will have to adjust to the altitude and 85 octane fuel.

x2 on Al, had a couple separate mechanics refer me to him for gears. Thanks for tip about shop in Boulder. The shop I really liked just closed
