Upgrade to 3.73 or 4.10 gears with 31" tires?

I have 3.73 with 31s and the 3 spd 32RH. I think it works pretty well. Mine came with 3.73 if you plan on ever going bigger to 33" or so you night as well just go with 4.10

I have an 01 Sport with an auto with 3.73 an 31 10.50 15's. It had 3.07 when it bought it with a hammered so i got an 8.8 Ford and found a y front with 3.73's. Love it but honestly, if I had it to do over I should have installed 4.11s. I leave the 01 at our cabin near the Boundary Waters and it does see a fair amount of road miles. I think.....2700rpm at 65mph

Having to downshift out of 5th gear into 4th when climbing hills is absolutely and 100% normal. 5th gear is an Overdrive ratio and it's for maintaining speed when the highway is flat or mostly flat. Climbing hills requires slightly more power which is only possible with higher engine rpms which means you need to shift out of Overdrive (5th gear) into 4th. Don't expect to be able to climb hills in 5th gear no matter what reasonable axle ratio is installed.

So why do you think gearing for the 42RLE (automatic overdrive) is any different?

The factory agrees, 4.10 is what they install into Rubicons which come standard with 31s.

I have a 01 Wrangler tj sport, restoring it completely, have a rough country 4in frame lift, 33 in tires but will upgrade to 35 when these wear out, 4.0 liter ,auto trans, with Dana 30 front/35 rear, 307 gears , do a lot of highway driving, some off road, torn between 373 to 411 gears or what any one can steer me in the rite direction

With your 3-speed 32RH automatic transmission, 4.10 is perfect for 33's and 4.56 is perfect for 35's.

No problem at all. You'll just want to drive more toward the slower lanes until you get the 35’s. The engine will be fine with the slightly higher rpms with the 33's until you get the 35's.

Thanks Chris, would it be better to install 411 gears with the 33/12.5-15s with the 4.0. Trans 32rh auto. Nv231 transfer case. 4in lift. So if I want to put 35s at a later date is the 411 passable. It’s a lot of variables. I really don’t want to change gears again. Thanks Chris sorry to be such a pain
