Going to tackle the valve cover gasket tomorrow. I bought this Fel-Pro gasket and noticed it has a raised lip on both sides. Do I use gasket material on this kind or no?

All these years and it wasn't till I read this thread that I looked at the back of the valve cover, and sure enough, it's been leaking. Thought all this time it was my RMS. Course it still could be, but changing a valve cover gasket is days easier than a RMS. Just thought I'd share.

Same here. While under the hood, a mechanic pointed out that my valve cover gasket was leaking.

To the OP: I, as well, used no sealant at all, but made sure the mating surfaces were spotless.

yea I cleaned everything really good and its been 2 days. I have not seen any leaks any where to include the RMS so I'm thinking the gasket was my problem. As for that stupid piece of plastic that holds the wires at the back of the valve cover, yea thats not going back on ever lol

I was looking at that plastic thingy and thought that it looked like pita to remove.

It was. I just opened it from the front and pried it wide enough to get the wires out then pretty much ripped out the plastic holder. I did not mess with unclipping it from the back.
