It's nothing special, it's just another torsion style limited slip differential like the Detroit Truetrac.
06lj,
I agree the Wavetrac price is currently in the range of locking diffs. but does seem to fill a niche that selectable locking front diffs cannot for highway use in certain weather conditions and still be an improvement over the current Torsen style diffs for off-road.
All I know is I wasted my $$$ installing two Truetrac torsion style limited slip differentials 20+ years ago, they didn't work worth a crap offroad. Great for onroad use but offroad they were worthless on the types of trails I grew to like. I ended up replacing both of them with lockers and never looked back.
We don't live far from Big Bear. Lots of folks go up there so my first question pertaining to front locker choice is always "you gonna go to Big Bear and play in in the snow? If yes, selectable up front, if no, it gets a Detroit. My Jeep has super 30 and 35 e-lockers and that's perfect...I couldn't imagine a Trutrac on the Jeep. I want control of my lockers all the time...on the road...on the trail...in the snow.
