When I start my Jeep up it makes a weird howling sound. At first I thought it was a whistle, and I decided to leave it alone. Then I noticed that it is RPM dependent. When I rev it higher than usual it really starts to squeal, it almost sounds like a supercharger whine you would hear from a Dodge Demon. After 20-30 minutes the sound is gone, so I feel like after the engine gets properly warmed up it starts to calm down. At this point don’t know if I should be worried or not, so I’ve just turned the radio up to drown it out.

Is anything broken?

Should I be worried?

If I haven’t explained it well enough I’ll take a video and see if I can clip it to the post.

Thanks as always!

I'd check for werewolves! I had one under the hood of an old Chevy.
Or it could be something in the serpentine drive. Seemed like the werewolf left when I changed out the power steering pump.

Did you ever solve this issue? Im having a similar sound on the highway between 55-70 MPH and its getting annoying. I made a post about it, thinking it might be the front diff, and was told it could be the carden joint going out. But I also see that my tensioner pulley is a bit sloppy at idle. So I've narrowed it down to probably being either the drive shaft or tensioner pulley/ bearings

the OP hasn't been back here in over 3 years. try spraying the tensioner pulley bearing with some lube and see if it quiets down

The idler and tensioner pulleys squeak whenever the engine is running. If you only hear it at 55-70 mph it is likely your double Cardan. You should get that checked out right away because if it seizes it can take out your transfer case and maybe more. You don’t have to remove the driveshaft. Just disconnect it at the diff and tie it up out of the way. That only takes a few minutes.
