What color are these half doors? (updated: still a mystery?)

I picked up these half doors last year, I don't know what year they are, and I don't know what you'd call the colors. I wrapped the outside with black vinyl and I'll eventually replace the uppers with whatever color I reskin my Trektop with but I'm hoping these pictures give enough context clues to figure out what the color names are likely to be.

I ask because my TJ has an all black interior and for a long time I've wanted a black/tan interior so I'm considering making the conversion if I can find parts, paint to match if I can find paint, or just do it all a custom shade of tan if it's too difficult.

Best I can tell is the doors are maybe Desert Sand Pearl? That would put it as a set of 99-00 doors. That would indicate the cards are probably Camel and the soft uppers are probably Dark Tan?

What do you folks think?

Khaki exterior, khaki interior. Khaki interior replaced Camel in 03'.
Desert sand is much lighter. I've had a couple of both colors.

That could be it. I just remember it having more of a pink-champagne hue to it which was why I was thinking desert sand pearl initially but khaki seems more likely. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of photos pre-wrap and it always looks different in different lights.

After a conversation with @sab the colors of these doors have again been brought into question.

I've wrapped another set of upper frames black, so I want to list these uppers for sale but don't actually know what color they are.

I'm not familiar with the color codes, but sab mentioned that TRM in the part number should indicate color and doesn't match with anything he (I assume) is aware of.

Additionally, 5FV23 seems to point back to these being a set of earlier doors, and thus, not khaki.

Any additional input? I can't very well sell mystery color uppers. They're in damn near if not perfect condition.

I can add this to the discussion. I've made a chart of all upper part numbers from the parts lists in the Resources forum:

Here's a description of the patterns in the part number scheme:

• The first four digits indicate it's a half door upper.
• The fifth digit indicates left (driver) or right (passenger), and the left side is one higher (for instance, 2 for right side and 3 for left side).
• The sixth through eighth digits vary with color, but there are some variations (black, for instance, was TX7, then BX7, then SX9). I suspect those variations were a material change each time (I've seen posts about 3-ply vs 4-ply used over the years).
• For all but the 1997 model year, there is a two digit suffix on the part number that indicates revision level, and it seems to go AA, AB, AC, etc.

bluescapegoat's uppers have a part number that doesn't appear in any parts list, it doesn't show up on the Mopar parts online system, and my local dealer couldn't find it, either. However, if you look at the number ("5FV23TRMAD"), and break it down, the first five digits ("5FV23") indicate left side, used from 1997 to 2000, the next three digits ("TRM") indicate color/material and don't match anything in the parts lists, and the last two digits indicate an AD revision code and don't really help identify them. I think the key is the "TRM" portion. What color is that?

We're posting about this because bluescapegoat is selling his unknown color uppers, and I'm trying to buy khaki uppers, but the various shades of tan used over the years makes it difficult to know what you've got or are getting. I've purchase several uppers on eBay, and sent most of them back because the interpretation of the color was wrong, and the lighting conditions make the colors difficult to discern. Until he sent me the picture of the part number above, I thought that I'd cracked the code, but his part number is a mystery to us. My best guess is that his doors came from a special edition, and Jeep wasn't diligent in updating the parts lists.

Anyone have uppers with his part numbers (drivers side is 5FV23TRMAD and passenger side is 5FV22TRMAD) and know for certain what color they are or what type of TJ they came on (a build sheet might shed some light)?

So I just took the tops and half doors outside in the light and pulled them apart to look for any part numbers or color codes.

I bought these as a set from somebody who bought them as a set before me. He had them stored for 10 years in his basement. No way of really knowing if they were always a set or not.

If you're still trying to determine the color of the hard doors there should be a VIN sticker on the edge of the door, I believe on the latch end. That would at least narrow down the year and distinguish between desert sand or khaki. Perhaps it could help narrow down the uppers as well.

Why didn't I think of that, totally forgot about they put the vin on the door!

Mystery is most likely solved, and goes with my original guess.

I was going to say the same thing about a VIN sticker. Unfortunately I have a set that was re-painted and the vin sticker was covered up. I think they were re-painted original color as even inside the door matches.
