Hello everyone, so I just picked up this non Rubicon Dana 44 rear axle today and when I got home and opened up the cover I found some good size pieces in the oil. They seem to be from behind the spider gears. I'm don't have very much knowledge about gears and LSD's so please tell me what's going on here. I'm not too upset as I was planning to regear but I was hoping to drive with these gears for a month or two. Will I be able to drive with it like this for now? The gears spin nicely and the LSD still seems to work but I'm guessing that will change when there is load to the axle.

Thank you

From what I can see in the pictures it appears that the carrier is damaged and will need to be replaced.
With pieces that large floating around I would disassemble and inspect the Ring and Pinion and other internal parts to see if they are also damaged.
Since you were planning to regear depending upon what gear ratio you are planning to install; you will more than likely need to replace the carrier anyway.

You should NOT drive the Jeep at all until the carrier is replaced.
