What Needs to be Done to My New Dana 44 Axle For SYE Installation?

Finally getting around to installing the Dana 44 that scored this past fall. Just cleaning it up & going through it before rolling it under the Sahara. I have a set of new control arms & trackbars on the way, an SYE kit and driveshaft from Woods. I went ahead & ordered an angled trackbar bracket to make up for the SYE, is there anything else I need to change out, specifically the spring perches? Will they be alright with the angle of the axle or do they need to be moved as well?

About time you got the Dana 44 in

It may be easier to know how much to cut out once its under the jeep but you'll likely need to remove some material off the back of the spring perch to clear the rear shocks after the SYE.

What about these relocation brackets I see floating around? I'm not doing a tummy tuck, just getting rid of the TC drop & installing an SEY kit. Is trimming preferable over these brackets?

They put a lot of extra leverage on the mounts. Trimming is quick, easy, and free.

Not sure what you mean by that...other than maybe that you need one to work in conjunction with an SYE.

Everything is bolt in coming from a Dana 35, with the exception of the driveshaft length. You might need to trim 1" off the driveshaft length. If you already ordered the driveshaft, then I guess you'll know when you install it and cycle it if it bottoms out or not.

That is what I meant - to make up for the raised pinion angle.

As for the driveshaft I'm going to run over to Tom Woods' shop with measurements & have them make me one.

From reading some other posts on here I see that inverting the rear shocks is also an option for helping to clear the spring perches... Between that & trimming I'll kill my idea of the relocation brackets.

Another question - the 44 I’m prepping to go looks like it already has brackets for the lower rear shock. Are these factory? Look like they’ve been there awhile.

No those are aftermarket, used to keep the shock from hitting the lower spring perch.

Thanks, I wasn't sure because they have the same patina as the rest of the axle & I didn't see the Jeep this thing came out of.
